Fall Newsletter 2012

The summer of 2012 may have been a hot one, but it was not a lazy one for NYCREW members.

Laura Walker has landed a new clients in the commercial real estate, property management and private equity industries.  After attending the CREW Leadership meeting in Montreal, she was inspired to take her family touring in Montreal and hiking in the Canadian Rockies with the help and advice of CREW Montreal Chapter President, Louise Bento.

Theresa Garelli spent time in Andermott, Switzerland working with her clients, Henley Estates and Orascom Developers, who are creating a new high-end, comprehensive and self-sustainable year around Alpine Resort.  It will have world class skiing and golf.  Henley is offering title insurance for all USA purchasers and investors through Horizon Land Services.  US brokers are offered commissions on sales as well.

Our leading lady breakfast series was as popular as ever with such speakers as Louise Matthews and our own Kennetha Pettus, who made us realize that the old testament story of Zelophedad's daughters has relevance for us today.

Another stellar occasion (and I mean that literally) was our champagne and chocolate social held on Barbara E. Champoux's rooftop on Roosevelt Island.  The conversation was as sparkling as the champagne.

NYCREW hit the ground running - even after such an active summer - with our September "Industry Spotlight" Series featuring Patricia Lancaster, former Commissioner of the Dept. of Buildings, currently advising NYC's top developers, while also teaching at NYU's Schack Institute.  Lancaster discussed a hot topic, emerging as a key consideration in new development - Infrastructure: what is it, why is it important, how it can make or break your new project.

We welcomed new member, Karen Fiorentino of Carnegie Hill Enterprises.  Her firm provides advisory, due diligence, marketing materials and business plans for various asset classes, most notably real estate.  She is eager to collaborate with fellow members.

Isabelle Pullis reports that her title business on commercial properties has picked up smartly in the 3rd quarter, but that residential remains in the doldrums.  After training all summer, she was happy to complete the John Daly Ocean Mile Swim in August.

According to Ann Marie Lynch, CREW Atlanta facilitated Studley's hire of a summer intern who will soon be a permanent employee.  Ann Marie will be working at the Studley booth at the CREW convention.  Stop by and get a Studley cap for your guy.  Dottie Cunningham will be promoting Globedotting tours at her booth.  Barbara E. Champoux, Christine Chipurnoi, Faith Hope Consolo, Shari Linnick, Isabelle Pullis and I have signed up to attend the convention, which is to be held in Chicago October 24th through the 27th.

Do not miss the upcoming NYCREW panel futurecast at the NYC Real Estate Expo on October 18th at Columbia, featuring Faith Hope Consolo, Annemarie DiColo, Barbara E. Champoux and Beth Zafonte, along with Raizy Haas, Senior VP of Extell Development.  Try your hand at speed networking on Wednesday, October 17th at 6:00pm at Merrill Lynch at a program which will be held in collaboration with AREW.

Remember to keep your CREWBIZ profile up to date.  Go to the crewnetwork.org website to edit or enter your profile.  It is the best way to get referrals from other chapter members.  Save the date for NYCREW's Annual Gala to be held on 12/12 from 6:30-8:30pm, at The Townhouse of the Columbus Club, 8 East 69th Street.
Sincerely,
Karen Dome, President
